The Taylor Howes team travel extensively to ensure their advice and expert knowledge is always on trend! Further to visiting the latest international interior fairs - Paris, Milan, Miami - the Taylor Howes team share five strong trends which will be key for 2012 interiors.
1. Colour is back: Orange is definitely the accent colour of choice in the Taylor Howes atelier. It is in our new logo and the highlight colour in our office! Orange is the colour of joy, energy and creation. The colour Purple is also a key accent colour for 2012. Both colours can add a shot of energy and drama to any interiors through accessories or sumptuously textured fabrics like satins or velvets which will instantly add luxury to any room.
2. 1940’s Glamour: the style of the 1940's evoked glamour and elegance. With regards to finding the right piece of furniture and accessories, one can either go the vintage route and try to find original items or even source pieces that are inspired by the era by manufacturers such as US supplier J Robert Scott or Somerville Scott & Co, a wonderful furniture maker that produces unusual quality pieces, all made in the UK.
3. Tribeca Style: the trend started with the stunning sequined jackets on the Fall 2011 Balmain fashion shows. For your home you can choose star pieces and accessories with items such as a stylish clock from Londontimepeice.co.uk, the letter lights by Elemental, even a Metal Chair by Cult Furniture. Small details such as stunning hand finished curtain tie-backs can also bring this trend to life. Incorporating interesting design and works of art can also reflect this trend and be something which can also turn out to be quite a good investment too.
4. Theatre: every room is a stage and setting the scene is very important for any interior, whether it is for the person living there or guests who visit. Adding an element of fun and theatre will increasingly prove important to ensure we are not bored with our surroundings. Do this by introducing bold pieces to your room. Like interesting accessories for an outfit, a interesting piece of furniture will draw the eye and become a point of interest and topic of conversation. For example, items such as the Casamidy Collier console or the Munna Yes No Maybe So chair - the choice is endless...
5. Simple elegance: when it comes to style, less is more! Like a beautifully tailored suit, if you buy quality you not only end up with items that will stand the test of time but will add elegance without fuss and camouflage, which is an easy temptation when we don’t quite get it right. Beautifully design lights such as the Porta Romana Cologne Lamp and Minotti Taltin Bed are great examples of this trend – simple yet stunning!
